[The portrait] … is a print from perhaps the best painting of William Weatherford (Red Eagle) ever done. It was drawn circa 1950. The face is that of a mixed-blood man of Creek heritage. He is wearing the traditional clothing of the Mvskoke Creek from the 1800 time period.
The second photo is a family photo taken several decades ago of several of his direct descendants. They had a gospel/country band and performed at Indian churches in America. Their clothing is typical Great Plains style (something expected for Indian bands of the time). The dad (Johnson Thomas) was Creek through his Perryman and Tiger lineage.
The mother was Lilly Freeman Thomas, a great great-granddaughter of Weatherford. The rest of the band are their children. These young people have now become major contributors in today's Muscogee (Creek) Nation, in education, art and music. One daughter is National Head of the Johnson O'Malley Program.
I thought that the members of the website might enjoy seeing descendants of the Great Warrior. Many of his descendants have visited Fort Mims and his nearby graveside. Weatherford's Natchez Indian wife, Mary Stiggins, is buried at Little River Baptist Church.
